House prices up in the south, Halifax finds
The latest Halifax County House Price Survey shows that many of the
counties in the UK experiencing rising house prices are located in
the south-east of England.
According to the newly-released report, the biggest rise in house
prices was recorded in Conwy, with a 13 per cent increase during
2010.
A pair of Scottish regions - East Dunbartonshire (12 per cent) and
Dumfries and Galloway (11 per cent) - performed almost as well,
with just two northern counties, Cheshire and County Durham, in the
top 20 for rises in house prices.
Suren Thiru, housing economist at Halifax, stated that the figures
show the strong performance of the housing market in the
south.
"We predict that UK house prices at the end of 2011 will be at a
broadly similar level to that at the end of 2010," he said.
The Bank of Scotland's recent Rural Housing Review found that the
price of houses in rural areas in Scotland has gone up by 130 per
cent over the last decade.
