Balmforth are proud to have been able to help donate to this amazing charity!
Here are some words and photos from one of the organisers of the event, Sharon Williams..
We raised £5,206.50 in total. Plus £220 for our Christmas Giving appeal (George’s parents take gifts to the children’s community nursing team, EACH, Rainbow Ward and the paediatric oncology ward (Addenbrookes) for children who need medical care at Christmas). We did it last year and delivered hundreds of toys.
We couldn’t raise as much without support from local businesses like you, and our community, we are extremely grateful to you all. The money you help us raise enables researchers to ask questions, explore something new or try something different. Childhood cancer is biologically different to adult cancers and needs vital research of its own. The more we raise the more effectively questions can be answered, and the brighter the outcomes for Children diagnosed in the future. Just George has helped fund two new research projects and there are more in the pipeline.
The evening was a huge success, enjoyed by everyone. We have decided to make it an annual event. Lisa did a talk to our guests on the night about Christmas in hospital with George, which is the motivation for the Christmas Giving appeal. Guests were moved by her speech and wanted to help us bring smiles and provide distraction and memories for families whose child’s medical needs take priority this Christmas. They all hung stars on the tree and made donations to the Christmas Giving appeal.
We passed the £300,000 Just George fundraising milestone on the night, it was announced by Chris Sykes, our DJ, and everyone cheered and celebrated on the dance floor (which was packed all night!).
